BOULDER--E Source, a locally based firm that provides consulting services to utilities and large energy users, has started the build-out of its new headquarters facility in Boulder.

E Source is outfitting a 23,625-square-foot space at 1715 38th St. in central Boulder. The initial valuation of the construction contract is upward of $2 million, according to permits recently approved by the city of Boulder.

The impetus for E Source's planned move from a similarly sized office at 1965 N. 57th Court is so that the firm can "walk the talk," said Wendy Bloechle, spokeswoman.

"We specialize in energy-efficiency research ... we wanted a more efficient workspace," she said.

The move allows the privately held E Source to gut and renovate the new space to its liking, she said. This includes adding elements such as LED lighting, Solatubes to let in natural sunlight, variable-speed supply fans in the air-conditioning system and condensing instantaneous water heaters, Jay Stein, E Source's executive vice president, wrote last week on the company's blog.

"We're also expecting the open floor plan of our new space to foster more interaction and collaboration among staff and departments that currently are housed in separate wings of our current space," Stein wrote.

The roughly 75-person operation expects to move in February, Bloechle said.
